Mueller Sports Medicine Blog: Tips to Stay Healthy and Active While Being Stuck at Home

My name is Megan Hering and I work on Social Media at Mueller Sports Medicine. Here at Mueller we are starting a new vlog and blog series dedicated to bringing you guys tips and tricks revolving around nutrition, fitness, and daily life now that we are stuck at home. Let start off with tips on How to Stay Active and Healthy While Working From Home.

Background about Megan:

I am a recent graduate from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Being a former college athlete and with my interest in health and human performance, my main goal every day is to be active. As I know from experience, it is very hard to stay motivated to be healthy when you are stuck inside all day. Being healthy and active is a part of my daily routine and I really try my best to workout, eat healthy and stick to a routine every day. Change is hard, being at home is different for me because I am so used to going to work and working out before or after work. For me my goal is to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle during this time. Here are some tips that I have used to motivate myself to stay active in this time.

How do I stay active?

Staying active is hard when you don’t have a gym to go to or you are just a few steps away from that comfy couch or bed. I found that over the last few weeks while working from home, that it has been hard for me to want to be active. So, I decided that I was going to make myself a routine. Every day, I have a set time that I am going to complete a workout in-between or around my work schedule. What I have learned from being a college athlete, to transitioning to working 5 days a week was to always have a routine. Being on a routine not only helped me stay on task but also helped me feel better and stay active.

Online Resources to Stay Active:

Here are some of the FREE AT-Home workout resources that I watch to stay active every day and have a variety of workouts!

1. Fitness Blender: This team has a ton of full-length workout videos that allow you to stay active without any equipment. They have anything from bodyweight only, HIIT workouts, and total body toning. My favorite thing about this is that I can listen to the instructions while listening to my own music.

2. Livestrong Women: Livestrong is a channel that has a variety of different workouts and fitness instructors. You can pick from videos that are between 5-30 min long. This is great if you are on a time crunch or just want a quick workout. This is also a place where I gain many of my healthy eating tips and even recipes.

3. Chole Ting: Chole’s Website and YouTube Channel have great abs workouts that I follow daily. Her FREE 5-week challenge includes 2 full workouts a day that only take 30 minutes. I love how I can get a full workout in 30 mins or less and feel good about it.

4. Yoga With Adriene: This is a great YouTube Channel for yoga. Yoga is a great way to get away from a stressful day of work or to just relax. I like yoga with Adriene because there are all different versions and levels of yoga.

Overall, Chase and I are really looking forward to this series and we hope you all are as well! Lastly, we want to know what you guys think!
