Using Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology tape is lightweight and very comfortable to wear. You can use it for several types of injuries including knee fractures, shin splints and lower back pain. KT tape not only looks good, but it provides around the clock relief per application. It is made of a latex-free hypoallergenic cotton fiber with an acrylic heat-activated backing that stretches only along its longitudinal axis. You can wear it in water and it stays in place through humidity, strain and sweat.

Using Kinesiology Tape

When you use a roll of KT make sure to round every corner when cutting it to prevent the edges from peeling. Do not use it on any skin surface that is broken or damaged. More tips on using kinesiology tape are below.

  • Avoid touching the adhesive side after your remove the backing
  • Gently apply the tape and activate the sensitive glue by rubbing up and down the tape’s surface
  • Wait an hour after the application before you participate in activities that cause sweat.
  • Pat the tape lightly to dry it after taking a shower, swimming or exercising.

KT allows for a range of motion, but not so much that you are inclined to injure yourself further. The following information is about 3 main benefits of using it.

For Rehabilitation: Using KT after a manual manipulation session can increase the effectiveness of your treatment. It gives a continuous amount of stabilization to the affected area.

For Alignment: The tape can bring your body back into alignment. Correct alignment can help your joints recover from activities.

For Pain: KT decreases pain in certain areas of your body. The lifting action of the tape relieves pressure on pain receptors directly under your skin. A bonus is there is a taping method that helps drain fluids and decrease swelling.
