Like millions of people, you’re experiencing chronic lower back pain and you’re not sure why. It’s your hips. Well, maybe there’s some other underlying problem but let’s see if it’s your hip and butt muscles.
“The entire body works as a linked system, and a lot of times when people come in with knee or hip injuries, it’s actually because their butt isn’t strong enough,” said Chris Kolba, a physical therapist at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.
The muscles of the hip consist of four groups: the gluteal group, the lateral rotator group, the adductor group, and the iliopsoas group. If there’s an issue in one area, it could be affecting the others. So strengthening your hip region and staying flexible could help reduce your back pain.
